Revisions and Additions for Modern Geometry and Discrete Mathematics
My
primary task during my sabbatical was to complete the revisions to my
co-authored textbook, College Geometry
with The Geometer’s Sketchpad, that would allow instructors to use this
text with an alternative software package, GeoGebra. We completed the revisions
as a collection of class-ready handouts; however, the publisher has decided to
issue a separate edition of the text based on these new materials.
For
many, many years, I have been developing a textbook for our Discrete
Mathematics course. During the sabbatical, I updated the content to reflect
recent professional recommendations, added a preface, and created an index. An
unexpected opportunity appeared in summer 2018. The journal PRIMUS announced a
special issue on chairing mathematics departments. Drs. Ackerman, Raymond, and
I wrote and submitted an article, “The Department Chair’s Role in Mathematics
Service Courses,” which was accepted and since then has been published.
I
also made progress on other mathematical projects.
